A NEED FOR STANDARDIZATION

Home Hardware is a home improvement retailer with over 1,100 independently owned stores ranging in size from small local outlets to big-box building centres. In addition to tools, hardware, appliances and furniture, they also offer lumber and building supplies. Home Hardware wanted to expand their online content to help customers make more informed buying decisions. Though wholly Canadian-owned, Home Hardware carries products from many suppliers around the world. As such, much of their site’s product information was incomplete and non-standardized. The site had also undergone multiple updates and changes over the years which resulted in many style and copy incongruities.

COMPREHENSIVE, CONSUMER-FRIENDLY CONTENT

Our marketing specialists worked with Home Hardware to create a comprehensive Product Detail Page Style Guide for their vendors and an Internal Copy Guide for Home Hardware’s marketing teams. Using the Home Hardware voice captured in the style guide, we created keyword-focused, benefit-driven content for category overviews, FAQ sections, project descriptions and buying guides. This involved reading and understanding detailed blueprints and instructions and distilling these down into concise, consumer-friendly copy. We also created step-by-step how-to guides that leveraged videos submitted by Home Hardware’s key social media influencers.

A PRODUCTIVE E-COMMERCE PARTNERSHIP

Our internal and external style guides standardized and improved vendor product submissions, resulting in more informative product descriptions unique to Home Hardware. Our product category overviews helped improve search engine optimization and customer knowledge, and our simplified descriptions allowed consumers to more quickly understand projects. Our comprehensive buying and how-to guides helped position Home Hardware in the marketplace as more than just a home improvement retailer, but a product information destination. The digital flyers, social media promotions, web banners, email assets and digital brand pages our design team created helped drive brand awareness for Home Hardware’s many vendors.
